Aggrieved residents of Koraso in the Berekum West District of the Bono region, hooted at their Member of Parliament, Hon Kwaku Agyening Boateng, popularly known as Agoogo when he arrived in the community with other party officials.
The Railway Deputy Minister , who has been a Member of Parliament in the constituency for 12 years and NPP regional deputy chairperson, Hon Doris Asoma including the NPP constituency Chairman for Berekum West, Hon Peter Asoma Boampong and other party executives of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), were in the Koraso community to inform them of the change of road contractor who is delaying their road project and to campaign towards the upcoming general elections in December 7th but the members of the community, who had gathered in their numbers, gave the MP and his team a hostile welcome.
The residents, who accused the MP of failing to fulfil his earlier campaign promises of constructing their roads said, their action were in fulfilment of their promise to vote “skirts and blouses “ due to the MP inability to engage them regularly and solve their problems such as road construction.
The angry residents revealed that, they see their Member of Parliament only in the election time.
The residents also accused the MP of neglecting their community during the voters registration exercise which nearly brought chaos in their communities especially, the clash between Bono NPP regional chairman , Kwame Baffoe Abronye DC and Berekum West independent parliamentary candidate, Derick Obeng Mensah.
The youths who spoke to Ghananewsplus and Berekumman TV disclosed that , the MP has failed to fulfill his numerous promises to fix their roads and provide potable drinking water and toilets facilities to the community.
Koraso is a town situated 4 kilometres away from Berekum , It is the second largest town in the Berekum West District after Jinijini , the Capital.
The community lacks so many things making living conditions increasingly unbearable for the residents.
There is inadequate drinking water, the community has a small clinic but has many challenges, inadequate infrastructures, no ICT centres, no jobs , no factories , no police station and robbery attacks are common, drugs abuse and illegal drug peddling activities going on in the community.
However, the major and immediate demand of the community is for the construction of the road linking Koraso to Berekum. The road gets worse in the rainy season and the community is always cut off from the rest of the communities.
The NPP constituency chairman, Hon Peter Boampong , accused other parliamentary candidates in the constituency for orchestrating these resistance, demonstrations and the hooting actions. He believed they masterminded all that happened.
Hon Kwaku Agyenim Boateng ( Agoogo ) is currently struggling to maintain his balance in the constituency as he faces backlash on multiple fronts.
The allegations of incompetence and under-performance, the Member of Parliament and his team are having a turbulent campaigns in the communities.
As many as three more communities such as Adom, Tewbabi and Abisaase are planning similar action to stop him from campaigning in their communities. The Member of Parliament , with the help of his strong men and police patrol team , managed to meet the chiefs of Koraso and assured them of fixing their road immediately.
He also solved their toilet problems for them by providing money to dig emergency pit “ hwii tim “ to be used for now while awaiting for new ultra modern WC type.
After meeting Koraso chiefs, he continued to the adjoining community, Nkantanka where he had a pleasant experience with the chiefs and residents.
Koraso and Nkantanka have the same problems since there is no clear boundaries between these two towns.
