Berekum Abesasi-Tewbabi Citizens Association both Ghana and abroad has completed and commissioned an Information Communications Technology (ICT) centre in Berekum in the Bono Region.
The project which was initiated by an American peace corps volunteer, Hedy Pojonk (Akua Bronii) , through the influence of Nana Attah Yeboah Brobbey( Hon. Attah Jacob) , the Assembly member and Ankobiahene of Tewbabi .
In the course of the construction, the project was stalled for some years due to Covid19 pandemic and financial misappropriation on the part of the project contractor
but hrough the efforts of the Asembly member, Hon Attah Jacob, and the unity committee , Nananom of Tewbabi-Abisaase, Citizens -both home and abroad, ( mostly citizens in abroad ) , this ICT was finally completed.
The project was funded by a team of 38 citizens who financially contributed towards this ICT project to give a facelift to the two towns and also to boost ICT learning in these communities.
The center has been furnished with 13 computers and other equipments. Mr Kwaku Gyan popularly known as Pop-Djan , who lives in Germany, also donated a set furniture to be used in the ICT centre free of charge. Mr Augustine Yeboah ( Alhaji Belo) of Canada also donated some chairs and promised to donate one printer to be added to the existing ones.
RasPee also donated one computer to be added to the existing ones.
Mrs Joyce Oppong ( Nana Tutugyagu) of Germany also distributed scarves to all women in the community during the ceremony.
The project which was initiated by an American peace corps volunteer was later coordinated by Kofi Adane ( Borga 1 ) to solicit funds from the Abesasi-Tewbabi citizens to complete it to support the knowledge of ICT education in the area.
Speaking at the Commissioning ceremony at Abesasi-Tewbabi, the Assembly Member for the area Hon. Atta Jacob commended the foreigners led by Kofi Adane aka Borga 1, the global coordinator of Berekumman Citizens Association together with some 38 others who made it possible to completion the ICT centre.
The Assembly Member , on behalf of the people in the area , thanked each and everyone with their support to see such a wonderful ICT Centre in their communities.
The Assembly Member also commended the efforts of the executives of the Abisaase-Tewbabi Association , led and managed by Rev Yaw Korang, who contributed immensely with their energy, ideas ,time and finances to the ICT project.
These key executives are Mrs Joyce Oppong (Germany), Mr Osei Kwadwo ( Germany), Matilda Akwaa ( UK), Mr Evans Ofori Yeboah ( UK), Monica Yeboah (Berekum ), Nana Adjei Kodie (Germany), Rev. Yaw Korang (Berekum), Mr Augustine Yeboah ( Canada).
The Chief of Tewbabi, Osabarima Ofori Yeboah who also double as the dwantoahene of Berekum Traditional area also extended his profound gratitude to every individuals who through their efforts contributed towards the completion of the ICT facility for the people in the area.
According to him, he personally contributed to the construction of the facility financially but advised the children in the area to make good use of the ICT centre to acquire knowledge in the field of ICT.
Osabarima Ofori Yeboah advised that, most of the people who supported the construction of the project couldn't get the opportunity to abreast themselves with ICT during their time but encouraged the youth to take advantage of the facility in their education to acquire more knowledge in ICT which is now a global commodity for modernization.
The DCE of Berekum West District, Hon. Dominic Oppong also commended the citizens of Abesasi-Tewbabi living in abroad for supporting the project with their financial resources. He promised that, the Assembly will assist the centre in terms of everything to make sure the centre is functioning for it's purpose.
The Local Chairman of the Berekumman citizens Association , Prof Daniel Obeng-Ofori, seized the occasion to inaugurate the branch of the association in Abisase-Tewbabi to spearhead the developmental activities in their communities. The executives of the newly inaugurated branch are Rev Yaw Korang Raymond - Chairman, Mr Dartey Job-Secretary, Monica Yeboaa- Treasurer, Mr Asomah- Organiser, Rita Benewaa- Woman’s Organiser.
The vote of thanks was virtually delivered by Mrs Joyce Oppong ( Nana Tutugyagu) from Germany to mark the end of the colourful occasion which was attended by dignitaries such as Osabarima Nana Ofori Yeboah, Tewbabihene and dwantoahene of Berekum traditional area , Hon. Dominic Oppong-DCE for Berekum West District, Mr David Owusu Ansah- District Education director, Prof Daniel Obeng Ofori-Vice chancellor of Catholic University Sunyani and other citizens from abroad such as Martha kyeraa ( Martha beauty supply), Peter Yeboah, Nana Adjei Kodie of okodie radio.
