The Peole of Oforikrom in the Berekum East Municipality of the Bono Region are crying for health needs as their CHIP compound constructed in 2016 by the erstwhile NDC government is abandoned.
The CHIP Compound which was constructed to serve the people of Oforikrom and other communities who are ,mostly farmers ,has since been left to rot leaving the people to cry for their health center to be open.
It is almost 6 years now after the completion of the CHIP compound, no nurse was posted to the place to serve the people and the Municipal Health Directorate has paid no heed to the cry of the people in the area to inaugurate the CHIP compound for use.
According to information from the residents , some of the municipality health authorities did not supported the move to open the CHIP compound because according to them, at the time of construction of the CHIP compound, the location was not well sited and not well considered which to him was far from the reach of people to build the CHIP compound in that community.
According to the Video of CHIP compound , seen on social media platforms, the construction of the CHIP compound has two bedroom attached to it to accommodate the nurses and workers who will be posted there to work.
The residents are calling the Municipal Assembly to come to their aid at this time to furnish the CHIP compound and commission it for the people because access to health care is very critical to them since Oforikrom is far from Berekum Holy family Hospitals.
The Chief of Oforikrom, Osabarima Ofori Mensah speaking to media also explained that, he has been the one who always drive pregnant women from the place to hospital whenever there is an emergency.
He added that, though the MP of Berekum East Hon. Nelson Kyeremeh has come in to intervene to complete the project and they believe he will fulfill the promise made to the people living in the community to open the CHIP compound.
He therefore appealed to all and sundry to also come in to assist them complete the CHIP compound to serve the people.
Speaking to the Berekum East MP’s aid, Denise Kyeremeh, confirmed the CHIP compound is been worked on by the MP to renovate it.
According to him, the MP has taken a step to clean the place for the renovation works to pave way for painting for the facility to be handed over to Berekum East Municipal Health Directorate for use.
He said, after the renovation works, it will be left with the provision of a motorbike and a referigerator as part of requirements from the Municipal Health Directorate to kick start the operation of the facility.
