The Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr George Yaw Boakye, has assured residents of Kenyasi in the Asutifi North district that Kenyasi - Hwediem road and Kenyasi town roads, will receive an asphaltic overlay by June this year.
Mr Boakye admonished the people of the region, especially the youth of Kenyasi, to remain calm and patient on the government to deliver its promises to the area saying that contractors will soon be on site to commence work.
The Regional Minister made the disclosure in an interview with Journalists at Kenyasi in the Ahafo region, on the security situation of Asutifi North district.
Members of Kenyasi No 2 Youth Association (K2YA) had earlier threatened to embark on a five days intensive demonstration, to register their displeasure on the activities of Newmont Gold Ghana Limited -Ahafo Mines and Poor road networks in Kenyasi enclave among other issues.
The Secretary of Kenyasi No 2 Youth Association, Mr Ebenezer Kumah, told Journalists that numerous issues affecting the development of the area have not receive the needed attention from leaders in the region.
Mr Kumah expressed worry about how two students from the area drowned in an open dam of Newmont Gold, but government has since not punish the miner saying Management of Newmont and its subsidiary companies have refused to response to our letters.
The Secretary added that a white paper agreement about fixing all community roads signed in 2017 by the then Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Lawyer Asomah Cheremeh, with Newmont, has not been implemented.
" Other managerial positions which was listed on the mining contract agreement, to be given to qualified community members, has been breached. Management of Newco, a subsidiary of Newmont, have been hiring vehicles from outside the area" he bemoaned.
Mr Kumah said Newmont Gold and government have signed a new mining contract agreement recently without the involvement of the youth and key stakeholders adding that must be given copies of the agreement.
He Implored political, traditional, religious and social leaders among other stakeholders in the Ahafo region, to help resolve these issues confronting the communities affected by mining and said K2YA remains resolute, united and development - oriented.
Later, the Regional Minister indicated that himself, Roads and Highways Minister, Mr Kwasi Amoako Atta, National Security Minister, Mr Albert Kan Dapaah, Newmont, and representatives from Kenyasi, met in Accra last week concerning road networks in Kenyasi.
Mr Boakye was optimistic that engineers would be on site to conduct cost analysis about the various contracts next week before full construction of the roads begin saying the asphaltic overlay will last longer.
The Regional Minister urged the youth of Ahafo, especially Kenyasi, to resort to dialogue to address their challenges and misunderstandings on governance, community development and Newmont Gold assuring that " I will meet stakeholders to resolve all the issues affecting the youth.
