Royal in Development International Foundation (RiDIF), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has donated detergents and clothing items worth over GH¢10,000 to the Sunyani central prisons services.
Nana Afia Siraa Ababio III, the founder of the organisation , is the Queen mother of Kato and Werempe Hemaa of the Berekum Traditional Area in the Bono Region.
RiDIF mandate seeks to provide livelihood support to vulnerable groups in society, particularly women and children as well as persons living with disability in the country.
Nana Afia Siraa Ababio III, who could not join the ceremony in person but monitored it live on Berekumman TV Facebook page , stated “Our heritage, our pride”.
According to her, the donation of the items was to show love to the less privileged in society.
Speaking to Berekumman TV and GhanaNewsPlus reporters during the ceremony , the administrator /PRO of RIDIF, Nana Penkyema I, who is also the Kontihemaa of Sampa Traditional area , noted that, the value of life is to assist one another and put smile on the faces of the less privileged, hence all should endeavour to lend a helping hand to others.
“I’ll plead with the general public to develop the heart of generosity. Lot of people are in dire need of help while others have in abundance, to bridge this gap we all need to support each other.
I’ll therefore entreat everyone to at least for once visit the prisons and help them” the Royal appealed.
Nana Penkyema I, on behalf of the RiDIF organization, presented assorted items including toiletries, secondhand clothing, provisions, detergent among others to the inmates.
She however admonished the youth against social vices which may lead them to the correctional center.
“Irrespective of how tough every situation may be, patience and hard work can save one from trouble. I will therefore advice the youth to choose a more civil way to resolve any grievance, because when you end up here you delay the pace at which you were to progress in life” Nana noted.
Throwing light on the Non Governmental Organization the queen mother revealed it’s main purpose is to make the world a better place for all.
“As an organization, Royals in Development International Foundation wants to touch the lives of the marginalised and put a smile on their faces. The aged, widows, orphans and inmates also need to be treated with dignity. That’s why as royals we are preaching dignified livelihood for them and supporting them both in kind and cash” she observed.
The Public Relations Officer of the Prisons Service who received the items on their behalf expressed gratitude for the kind gesture.
Just as Oliver Twist stated, Mr. Johann Nartey made a passionate appeal to other philanthropic individuals and organizations to come to their aid.
“The inmates have exceeded the initial capacity of the prison making the situation here quite worrying. Our current topmost priority is a water tank to store water for our daily routine here. I will therefore call on all to come to our aid” Mr Nartey hinted.
